Check out the latest LDS craziness emanating from Salt Lake City.  The Mormon leaders have at long last finally released photos of Joseph Smith’s “peep-stone” that he employed to produce the “sacred” Book of Mormo -n.  Incredible!!

Keep in mind that during all my years of being involved in Mormonism, the official LDS Church position was always that Joseph Smith utilized a mystical “Urimm and Thummim to “translate” the magical “gold plates” and produce the Book of Mormon.  RIGHT!  Whenever the question of a “magical seer-stone in a darkened hat” came up – it was always dismissed as false and mean-spirited  “anti-Mormon” ranting.  Now the world learns that the LDS Church has ALWAYS had possession of Smith’s “sacred” scrying stone, and today they publicly admitted it.  Oh my!

It appears David Whitmer’s testimony of the “translation” process was perfectly correct all along.  Whitmer was one of the Three Witnesses whose testimony is in the front of every modern B of M, so his credibility on the subject is impeccable, even though completely misguided. In his book “An Address to All Believers in Christ” – Whitmer declares: “I will now give you a description of the manner in which the Book of Mormon was translated. Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. Thus the Book of Mormon was translated —-”  (Page 12).

C’mon good Mormon people – give this post some serious objective, critical thinking.   By the modern LDS Church’s own admission, this egg-shaped stone below was the primary tool that Smith used to conjure up the Book of Mormon!!

Smith Seerstone Imagine this stone placed in Smith’s hat and magical “parchment” appearing out of the darkness within it.   Translation of ancient precious metal plates?  Hardly!  This process is what the ancient biblical texts refer to as scrying, or “peeping” – and God strictly forbade such practices.  The Prophet Isaiah had this to say about the topic: “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? ——  And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness”  (Isaiah 8:19-22). Indeed, Smith declared that the Book of Mormon truly has a “familiar spirit” (i.e. a demonic entity according to the Bible).  Indeed, the LDS people constantly seek after the dead – doing posthumous “endowments” and baptism for dead people every day but Sunday and Monday in their secret temples worldwide!

The problem is, for many years, official LDS publications consistently portrayed Joseph Smith studying the mystical plates as he dictates their English meaning for his scribe to write down.  For example – here is the LDS Ensign magazine cover depicting the process:

Smith Translating

Yet now we know from the LDS Church’s own admission, here is what in reality actually transpired:

Smih Translating2

No “translating” was in reality being done – only “peeping’ or “scrying”.  All this while the mystical plates of gold were safely buried outside the house under a tree (according to David Whitmer et. al.)??  What is astonishing to me is that otherwise intelligent people actually believe this end-product is “sacred scripture” even more important spiritually than the Holy Bible!!

Take a good long look at Smith’s magic seer-stone above.  Do you really believe that egg-shaped stone glowed in Smith’s darkened hat and magical parchment words appeared??

I ask you: If someone were to make such ludicrous declarations in today’s world, would they not likely end up in an asylum for the criminally insane?  And if they did so in order to bilk people out of their money – they would likely be spending time in either a high security prison (or be elected to office in Washington D.C.)
